2025 Books Read
Just like in my last post, 2025 was a busy year so I didn’t read as many books as I wanted. I still did get through a fairly decent number of books, though! In 2025, I read a total of 10 books, mostly at the beginning of the year with a few near the end of the year. Most of the books on here are fiction but I did also complete two non-fiction, programming books.
- Let’s Go by Alex Edwards
- Learning Systems Thinking by Diana Montalion
- Memory’s Legion by James S.A. Corey
- The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin
- Altered Carbon by Richard K Morgan
- The Mercy of Gods by James S.A. Corey
- Livesuit by James S.A. Corey
- The Parable of the Sower by Octavia E Butler
- The Parable of the Talents by Octavia E Butler
- Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Some notes on a few of the books that I read:
Let’s Go
I really enjoyed this book as an intro to Go web development. It helped me write a few small Go web-apps that I use at home. I have come back and referenced this book a few times now, highly recommended!
The Lathe of Heaven
The first book of Ursula K. Le Guin’s that I’ve read. I really enjoyed this one. I especially liked how well Ursula K. Le Guin was able to make the whole book itself feel like you’re in a fever dream.
The Mercy of Gods
I really like James S.A. Corey’s books and this one is no different. I think they’ve done a good job setting up a new universe with the Carryx. It forces you to try and understand the world through the lens of the very authoritarian Carryx. Lots of setup with this book and a little teaser in the novella follow up Livesuit.
The Parable of the Sower / The Parable of the Talents
I really like Octavia E. Butler’s books. I first started with the Lilith’s Brood series and then read both the Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents in one go. Still freaky the timeline of the book’s American decline and… waves arms all the awful fascism happening today. Still, a great read. The Parable of the Talents was a much harder read because its just a whole rough time for Earthseed. I liked the ending but it made me sad that Butler wasn’t able to add more to the series. I would have loved to see Earthseed out among the stars.
Elder Race
A fun short book by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It had some echoes of Children of Time (as in, is this set in that universe?). Either way, I really enjoyed it, the writing was fun and the story was simple but entertaining. Just what I was looking to read.
I’m hoping that in 2026 I’ll be able to get a few more books read. Still wanting to stick to fiction, but I’m eyeing a few technical books to read this year as well.
